


Dr. Swamy is a neurointerventional surgeon specializing in the treatment of neurovascular conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord, with a particular focus on minimally invasive endovascular procedures. He is a board-certified neurologist who is extremely caring and professional and understands the needs of his patients and their families. Dr. Swamy is very passionate about improving stroke care and conducting research to advance the field.
Comprehensive care is synonymous with Dr. Swamy’s expertise. He is extensively trained in multiple subspecialties. He earned his medical degree and completed a Neurology residency at the University of South Carolina and Prisma Health. The first transitional year of his Neurology residency was completed at LSU in Louisiana.
Dr. Swamy then moved to San Francisco and completed two advanced fellowships. The first fellowship was in treating critically ill ICU patients suffering from a multitude of cerebrovascular insults, including stroke. Following this Neurocritical Care/Stroke fellowship, he was eager to undergo training in the endovascular treatment of stroke and other vascular disorders of the head, brain, and spine. He completed his training and became a neurointerventional surgeon, and he offers treatment for a wide range of procedures.
His specialties include acute mechanical thrombectomy for treatment of stroke, acute and elective treatment of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous fistulas (AVF), arteriovenous malformations (AVM), intracranial angioplasty and stenting, carotid artery angioplasty and stenting, WADA testing for language/memory, preoperative tumor embolization of the brain and spine, among others.
Dr. Swamy believes in a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to treating his patients. Cutting-edge research and proper patient education are a big part of this approach. His interest in research and disseminating knowledge stems from his postgraduate days. He was awarded a master’s degree in the field of biochemistry for his research on the molecular machinery involved in the innate immune system.
An avid educator, Dr. Swamy has received multiple accolades for teaching and research. He is appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology with the Dartmouth School of Medicine and serves to train and educate the next generation of physicians and doctors. Additionally, Dr. Swamy has been an investigator in over ten clinical research trials and has presented at over 40 scientific national and international research symposiums/conferences.
Dr. Swamy is a professional and expert in his field, with bedside manners to boast, which will instill a sense of confidence and comfort that is second only to his compassionate and caring nature. He is well known for effectively communicating and explaining medical jargon in a way that is practical for patients to make an informed decision. Dr. Swamy is fluent in English, Hindi, and Telugu.
